Roanoke Valley Christian Schools (RVCS) is pursuing a future administrative Head of School. The Head of School leads all aspects of the school's ministry. He oversees the Upper & Lower School Principals, Preschool Director, Food Services Director, Director of Discipleship, Director of Development, Main School Administrative Assistants, School Nurse and School Security Officer, and reports to the Executive Pastor of Shenandoah Baptist Church. A search team seeks candidates who fit the profile below in collaboration with the RVCS School Board and Elders of Shenandoah Baptist Church.

THE HEAD OF SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

​

An effective Head of School at Roanoke Valley Christian Schools will: 

​

  • Cooperate with the School Board in formulating the budget and policies of the school and expediting such administrative matters as may be necessary to carry out the purposes for which the school was established.
     

  • Provide an overall evaluation and development of the school staff by directly supervising the Administrative Team (Preschool Director, Lower School and Upper School Principals, Athletic and Assistant Athletic Directors, Director of Discipleship and Director of Development), Main Office Administrative Assistants, Food Services Director and Bus/Van Drivers.
     

  • Work closely with the Business Administrator with reference to budget development, implementation, and control.
     

  • Provide supervision of school-wide curriculum development and coordination.
     

  • Oversee admissions procedures and cultivate enrollment in conjunction with the Admissions Director.
     

  • Establish long-term and short-range planning (Continuous School Improvement Plan) for total school ministry.
     

  • See that the volunteer organization is properly guided in conjunction with the Director of Development.
     

  • Conduct faculty meetings when appropriate.
     

  • Serve as the Associate Pastor for School Ministries at Shenandoah Baptist Church in order to maintain mission and vision cohesiveness between the church and school.
     

This role description is intended to represent key areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time to time, and other duties may be assigned.

Roanoke Valley Christian Schools (RVCS) is a private, coeducational, Christian school for students in K2 (pre-kindergarten) through Grade 12 located in Roanoke County. RVCS was founded in 1973, and currently has 1295 graduates.  RVCS seeks to develop students who imitate the heart and mind of Christ as they subject all areas of life to the authority of God's Word and are fully prepared to confront their culture from a Biblical worldview.  Philippians 2:5 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus."  (NKJV)

WHAT YOU BRING

​

Education & Experience

​

  • Master of Arts in Christian Education Degree or higher (or a comparable degree in a related field)
     

  • Possession or pursuit of certification in school administration from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI)
     

  • Experience in Christian school administration or church administration preferable
     

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience.
     

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in the supervision of both employees and students in a ministry/education setting

  • A lifestyle which models the RVCS Handbook that can be imitated by faculty, staff, students, and constituent families
     

  • A full agreement with the Shenandoah Baptist Church Statement of Faith

With its high quality of life and low cost of living, the Roanoke area is a wonderful place to call home. The region's economy is strong, including major operations in insurance, banking, manufacturing, and automotive supply. Roanoke is also the hub of Carilion Clinic, one of Virginia's largest healthcare systems. The Roanoke Valley is home to several institutions of higher education, including Hollins University, Roanoke College, Virginia Western Community College, and multiple technical schools. Other colleges & universities are within an hour's drive, enriching Roanoke's educational offerings even further.

The region is well-known nationwide for its outdoor recreation. From hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, to fishing or kayaking in the scenic Roanoke River, or even visiting one of the many state parks within a short drive, the area offers endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
